The weather is finally warming up, meaning it’s time to grab an Aperol Spritz, pack the beach bag, and try out these gorgeous summer 2024 hair trends inspired by Zendaya, Rihanna, Kendall, and all your other favorite influencers.
The summer season is finally here, so we love a mini – or major – hair transformation to mark the occasion! Our schedules will soon be packed with weddings, festivals, summer soirées and holidays, which all require some hair inspiration. And when the summer temperatures soar we want low-maintenance hairstyles that can make us look pulled together, fast (because who wants to use a hairdryer when it’s 28 degrees out?) I’m talking ’90s-esque double buns, sleek ponytails, beach waves—I mean, the right hair clip can elevate any look.
And along with planning my holiday and summer wardrobe, I’m also curious as to what hairstyles will carry you through the season and then some. From tennis core braids to hourglass layers, find your new favorite ahead, plus the products that will help you get the looks.
This post is the latest from the Style Edit where I curate some of my favorite outfits and nail inspo. There’s truly something for everyone. If you’re new here, The Style Edit is where I talk about the next biggest fashion trends seen around the web. Make sure to subscribe for more style tips!
1. Cute Bows
Coquette and Ballet-core are still major trends thanks to the spring/summer 2024 runways. One ultra-low-maintenance way to wear this trend is in your hair! It’ll instantly pull your look together in seconds—especially if you employ some chic hair accessories. One of the best ways to add a hint of coquette to your half-up, half-down look is to add a mini bow or two.
2. Hibiscus Clips
Alright, I’m about to let you in on a little secret: On the days when I can’t even fathom putting together a presentable hairstyle (when I’m feeling lazy, lazy), I fake it with a hair clip. This season try a hibiscus clip to take your most boring, blah hairstyles to the next level.
3. Scarf
I love accessories all year round, but come summer they’re just as functional as they are aesthetic. Hair scarves have been reclaiming their popularity for the past few seasons, along with summer bandanas, snap clips, and claw clips!
4. Florals
I know, I know—flowers, for summer? Groundbreaking. But let’s face it – nothing will cheer you up like a colorful bouquet or a bloom tucked into your updo, and designers and street style stars have us yearning to frolic in a field of flowers. A flower tucked into your ponytail or braids adds a delightful touch of whimsy to even the most structured, high-fashion ‘fits and this trend does seem to have roots—pun intended.
5. Baby Braid Tendrils
Whether you braid two face-framing tendrils, or combine them into a half-up, half-down hairstyle—the opportunities are endless with this effortless harstyle.
6. Beachy waves
It’s time to dig out your sea salt spray! The hair trend of the summer is natural and effortless hair, where air-dried waves, texture, and frizz are making are making waves (literally) both on the beach and catwalks.
7. The Blow Out
Whatever your feelings on the term “clean girl” the trend has seen a movement toward minimalism and embracing what you’ve already got, whether that’s letting your complexion show through with lightweight skin tints or taking things back to your roots.
8. Braids
If you’re looking to do something more stylized with a ponytail, separate your hair and make two braids for a relaxed and easygoing look.
9. Cornrow Ponytail
Braids will forever be one of the most popular protective hair styles. They give us a break from day-to-day hair care, help maintain hair health, and are incredibly stylish. This year we’ve been seeing the reamergence of cornrows to thanks to the 90’s aesthetic revival.
10. Slick Updos
It’s no surprise that the summer season will see plenty more updos as we look to get our hair up out the way and off our face. The good news is, they’ve just. so. stylish. We’ve been seeing tons of very slick, very sleek ‘90s inspired buns and ponytails, alongside immaculate braids with extra personality and detail thrown in. It’s a very cool look for summer in more ways than one.
