How I Doubled My Blogging Income This Month – $700+ In August

Hello and welcome to my August 2019 blog income report!

I made over $700 this month! Woot! Woot!!

For those who are new, I started publishing these blog income reports here to show you it’s possible to make money online with a small blog like this one.

When I started publishing income reports, my goal was to help beginners who were not seeing results. In addition to that, I thought it was fun to track my own progress because it was my way to learn and improve.

You’re probably wondering why I wanted to share personal information on my income with the public. Honestly, I was debating whether or not I should share my income with the world because I was afraid that it would come across as bragging. That’s definitely not the case.

My sincere goal is to help others who want to earn extra money on top of their full-time jobs.

I first started blogging in December 2018, and I kept on coming across so many articles saying that it was too late to start blogging, claiming that “the ship has already sailed.” It was discouraging, but I had this feeling that I could make things work.

So I kept digging through income reports online, & looked for newer blogs (created after ’15-’16) that achieved moderate success (making over $3k a month).

To my surprise, I found a couple of newer bloggers making some serious $$$. Some were multi-niche blogs, others were really focused on a specific topic. All of them utilized Pinterest as the main traffic source and had more than 50k monthly sessions. Seeing other newer bloggers achieve success was so inspiring to me, and in December of 2018 I started this blog.

Believe it or not, I had so many fears when I first started blogging. Namely fears of putting myself out there or fear of my writing not being good enough. Despite these fears, I’m determined because deep down I know that blogging has many positive benefits that align with the big goals I have set for myself. These goals are so much more important to me then silly fears that I know I will get over.

It took me many months of learning and implementing different strategies to get to where I am today, so please don’t think I did this overnight.

Blog income reports can inspire us to keep going. It gives us hope that we can do it too! Without them, I don’t think I’d be here!

What’s new to the blog in September

I purchased a new theme!!!! I have been shopping around for the perfect theme for a while now. I was looking for something that loaded fast (crucial for impatient internet users) and super versatile – I needed full control over the look and feel of the blog. I found backpack traveler by Mikado themes on Themeforest and I knew that it was perfect the second that I saw it. It comes with over 62 pre-designed pages and widgets that I just haven’t seen anywhere else. I found that it was a little harder to set up than my previous themes but Mikado support has been SUPER helpful and answer any questions in less then 24 hours.

I’ve been indecisive recently. When I first started blogging back in December 2018 (time flies!) I had no idea what the niche of this blog would be. Even today I write about anything that interests me, which goes against what (most) bloggers are saying about creating a successful blog – that you have to niche down in order to be successful. I figured if Chasingfoxes and Just A Girl and Her Blog could write on multiple topics, so could I… & so far it’s worked for me.

I GOT ACCEPTED INTO MEDIAVINE!!!! I got accepted into Mediavine right after my birthday and It’s the best thing that could’ve EVER happened to my blog! For those that don’t know, MEDIAVINE is an advertising company that places ads throughout your website. I thought that having more ads would affect reader retention but ironically, my bounce rate dropped!? I was making around $180 per month with Google AdSense and this month I made $353 with Mediavine. How I grew my page views to over 30k monthly sessions

A quick summary of blogging tips that helped me as a beginner ~ how I covered all my startup costs (and started seeing profits) by the second month!

Starting a blog is the cheapest business that you can start in 2019.

My total costs for the blog, in the beginning, was: $109 for the hosting plan (I’m using the baby plan by hostgator) and $60 for the theme. All of my costs were recouped in my second blogging.

I did this by having google ads running (apply here), and I applied to several affiliate networks that accepted beginner bloggers. These were: ShareASale, SurveyJunkie, Swagbucks, & Hostgator

I attribute my success to what I learned reading other blogger’s income report, usually, if another blogger in your niche is making money by promoting a certain product, then so can you.

In the first two months, I worked diligently on the blog and made a ton of pins for Pinterest. I came across a couple of hurdles, mostly brought on by my insecurities.

Writing blog posts was the last thing I thought I’d ever do!

Honestly, I’m slightly embarrassed and insecure at times about my writing. It’s not the best, and I’ve definitely improved since I first started blogging. I have learned that you don’t need to be a good writer to make money with your blog!

Bloggers can make money a ton of different ways. This includes sponsored posts, affiliate marketing, and advertising. Here’s a breakdown of how I earned some money this month. Hopefully, this helps!

Mediavine: $352.51
Hostgator: $200
Survey Company Affiliates: $69.75
ShareASale: $26.92
Amazon $16.85
Miscellaneous Affiliates: $43

Income: $709.03

Expenses: $0

Since I paid for Tailwind ($108), and Hosting upfront, I don’t have any expenses.
